Common Ground Against Homelessness

The QHT grant and loan enabled Common Ground Against Homelessness to be less dependent on expensive loans and was pivotal in being able to complete the building work, and still offer high quality accommodation at an affordable rent level. Finance for the build project was difficult to access, and this funding made our hopes a reality.

Helen Carlin, Founder and Secretary

Common Ground Against Homelessness (CGAH) was established in 2020 with the aim of refurbishing property to develop homes for life for people who find themselves homeless. CGAH then leases the property to a charity partner that can provide the support and assistance required to the tenants, who have a history of enduring addictions and multiple disadvantages, and who find themselves excluded from a more standard service offer.

With the support of QHT, CGAH developed Thorntree Mill, which, since 2022 has housed 9 men aged 18 to mid-40s. It is quite unique in being able to accommodate this client group and stop the“revolving door” of homelessness that this marginalised and excluded client group face.

“Thank you all, on behalf of the CGAH board, and the many marginalised men Thorntree Mill will accommodate.“
